Welcome to IGaSol version 3.0! Now interactive!

Monday, February 9th, 2009

I know I’ve barely touched this site in years, and it really bothered me, but I just couldn’t dedicate much time to it. With this new version, updates are really quick and easy to do, the pages are better organized, there’s a search function, and best of all, YOU can add content to the site! Every page has a comment form, so you can add your thoughts directly to the page, and if you’d like to actually write an article or transcript, I can give you privileges to do so! So please contact me if you’d like to contribute anything! It was a lot of work to overhaul the whole site a third time, but I hope it’ll be worth it. This means the links have changed, so if you’re linking to a specific page on this site, please update your links (the old links go to a page that suggests a new link to the user).

There are a couple new transcripts up, which were almost ready years ago, but missing pictures. They’re still not entirely finished, so if you’d like to help out, let me know. The new ones are Jokes by Bill Cullen and Quadruple Cross with Phil Silvers!

A new interview is coming soon with a guest who was on IGaS with Garry Moore! I was really excited to get to speak with her, as she was involved in one of my favorite secrets of all time!

I hope you enjoy the new site, and please add your own comments to any page! Again, if you’d like to write any articles, please contact me! I’d also love to hear your feedback on the site, and if you find any broken links let me know in the comments.

Henry Morgan radio shows for download!

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

A while back willettd sent me a whole bunch of Henry Morgan mp3 files. They’re old radio shows he did in the late forties. Not all of them are labelled, but most of them are. They hold up fairly well, and are pretty funny, but even when the jokes fall flat Henry’s commentary is funny, and they’re interesting to hear. I put them all up in a directory, so you can browse and download at your leisure:

IGaS on (homemade) DVDs for sale!

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Bob sends this message:

Hey Tommy, i thought you might like to know that Thomas Film Classics, www.thomasfilmclassics.com has a LOT of IGAS on DVD, i contacted them and bought them all for about $130 including shipping, the quality is excellent altho you can see they were originally taped off of black and white overnight, but who cares? Well worth checking out!

Thanks Bob! That is a bit pricey, but Vol. 1 claims it contains 39 episodes, so that’s about a dollar per episode if you’d like to think of it that way. It takes a lot of clicks to actually navigate to the IGaS store, but you should be able to get straight to the IGaS section with this link. Three volumes are currently available, and they also have some other game shows if you’re interested.

IGaS on DVD! In COLOR! Sorta.

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

While we’re all still waiting for IGaS to be released on DVD (not holding my breath), you can at least get a taste. “Lucy’s Really Lost Moments” is on DVD (see image at left), and contains a couple segments. The first one has Lucy as the guest. It is in color, although is looks to be colorized in post-production (though I could be wrong):

02/15/1961 – Lucy’s secret is that she’s trying to get the panel to imitate her, through the power of suggestion. Johnny Carson was sitting in for Bill. This is the order of the panelists, with Lucy’s “moods”:

Betsy: Excited, Happy (Betsy pretty much guesses in, but Garry doesn’t want to ruin the whole thing, so he lies and says that’s not it)
Henry: Dignified, Sad
Bess: Nervous
Carson: Romantic, Tipsy

Lucy (while acting tipsy) asks Johnny Carson if he’s married, and he replies with the great line, “My story’s the same as yours.” (Remember, this was in 1961, less than a year after her divorce.)

The sponsor on Garry’s desk is Clairol, and the sponsor on the panel is Bufferin.

02/08/1956 – Black and white. This is found in the bonus features. Lucy replaces Faye Emerson on the panel, Desi is the guest. Jayne, Bill, and Henry are the other panelists. Desi’s secret is, “I love Lucy.” All the panelists pass, so it’s entirely up to Lucy to guess. Contains the Winston ad at the beginning.

The DVD also contains other clips, including Desi and Lucy on “What’s My Line?” as the mystery guests. You can find more info at the Amazon link above. You can also help support this site if you purchase it through that link.

Also, I found a recent interview with Betsy Palmer, if you’re interested. Don’t expect her to talk about IGaS though. There is also an older interview with her, farther down the page.

Update Archive 07/2004 – 06/2006

Tuesday, June 6th, 2006
It was brought to my attention that some of the links weren’t working (because of the domain switch), so I fixed those. Things like the wallpapers, or more importantly, the downloadable audio files. I checked the rest of the site and found a few other things to fix, removed some text that was no longer relevant, etc.

Unfortunately I’ve moved on to other projects and they are taking up most of my time, so don’t expect anything major to happen to this site in the near future. This was always just for fun, and I can’t dedicate much time to it anymore.

Although this site really only covers the original version of IGaS, I should still mention that there’s a new version of IGaS, and it will air on GSN! Previously there was a version that aired on the Oxygen Network in 2000. This newer version has a new cast, host, and set, so it doesn’t look like there’s any connection to the Oxygen version (or to the original, for that matter). It premieres Monday, April 17th at 10:30pm central. I guess now we know why GSN recently started re-airing the original IGaS.

Well, I finally switched this site to a separate server, and made the domain point here rather than be a redirect. The old links will still work, but I will probably make them redirect here. If you are using the old domain, please update it to this one ( www.ivegotasecretonline.com )!

In bigger news, it seems that IGaS is FINALLY coming back to GSN! According to my schedule, it will be back on starting April 4th, from 2:00 – 2:30 AM (central time). Check your listings to be sure! I’m not sure how long it will last, but it’s great to see it back on!

On February 22, 2005, “It Happened to Jane” was finally released on DVD! If you’ve read the transcript about it on this site then you would know it’s the only existing color footage of IGaS! You can pick up the DVD on Amazon.com here:

Amazon.com: DVD: It Happened to Jane

Willettd emailed me a couple links to some fantastic audio clips! They’re each about an hour long, broken into three clips (the next clip loads automatically). They’re streaming WMA files (as far as I can tell). Definitely worth a listen! Unfortunately they saved the biggest question for last (“why did the show end so abruptly?”), so Betsy had no time to answer!

Here is his email:

This is an interview with Betsy Palmer aired on TV Time Machine on World Talk Radio on 04/28/04. An interesting fact in this interview is how she almost quit IGAS because of Henry Morgan (she isn’t completely blameless.) There is also audio from the Mark Goodson episode and others.

This is an interview with Jane Meadows on the same show on 11/3/04 on which she discusses IGAS.

Those links are also listed on the links page.

Thanks Dennis!

*gasp*! An update! Actually, I worked on a lot of this stuff *last year*, but then I moved and now I’m doing that “work” thing where I make money so I haven’t had much time for other stuff. Sorry. So anyway, I got sick of not having this stuff up because it is perhaps the greatest behind-the-scenes content I will ever receive. So here is the stuff. Of course there are links to each in their respective sections, but so you don’t have to go digging to find it all:

Gary Senese (not the actor) was on IGaS in 1959. He contacted me, I sent him the episode. I put up a transcript with pictures of his appearance, an article he wrote about his experience (for this site), complete with scans of the official letters and telegrams! (I won’t link to those here, read the article for the links.) The “welcome letter” is the best piece of IGaS history I’ve ever seen! If you’re interested in behind-the-scenes type stuff, this is a MUST SEE! You get to learn lots of awesome IGaS trivia. For instance, the money handed out on the show is indeed fake money, and when the contestants whisper their secret to Garry, they don’t actually say anything!

So that it would be faster loading (since it’s basically just text anyway), I typed out the Official I’ve Got a Secret Welcome Letter! If you prefer, you can also see the scan of the actual letter (longer loading and a little blurry).

Oh yes, and I acquired some IGaS tickets last year from ebay. I’ll have better scans eventually, but here is a shot of the tickets in screwdown cases that I have.

Hope you like the new stuff! Sorry I haven’t updated this in a while!

Update Archive 08/2003 – 02/2004

Friday, February 6th, 2004
I just wanted to give an update on the future of this site. I will STILL update it whenever I get a chance, but I’ve been very busy lately and not very motivated. My priorities in life have changed quite a bit lately as well. Plus, I have a feeling the interest in IGaS isn’t as strong anymore since it went off the air (on GSN, that is). I haven’t updated lately because I moved, so I had to deal with all of that, and I’ve been busy working and dealing with life. I was pretty close to putting up a big update before I moved, too. I was really excited about it because it’s something probably none of you have seen, very “behind the scenes.” I will definitely get that finished at some point, and it will be the next thing up on this site. In any event, you don’t have to worry about this site disappearing, I have no intention of taking it down! It will remain up as long as I am able, but I don’t know how often I’ll be updating it. Maybe if IGaS comes back on GSN I’ll get motivated to work on more stuff.

Oh, and there was a tiny update done to the FAQ. I added some info to the theme song section.

If anyone wants to work on biographies or something, feel free to send them to me! I’ll put them up, because those are quite easy since it’s just text. Transcripts are a bit harder because I’d still have to get the screenshots and put the whole thing together, so email me before you do anything like that, if you’re planning on it.

Well, it looks like GSN proved me wrong. IGaS is now off the schedule, and no longer on the air (it happened days ago, I just didn’t update right away). Very sad news, but let’s just hope it will come back into rotation after some time. Better yet, email programming@gsn.com and tell them you want it back on! They need to know that there are a lot of people out there who love the show, and (would) watch it every night! Ok, onto the updates.

I have put up an FAQ! It’s still somewhat small, but it’s a work in progress. It answers such questions as “Where can I get a copy of an episode?” and “Do you trade tapes?” as well as step-by-step instructions on how to find out the original airdate of an episode. If you have a question you think other people want to know as well, email me and ask! If I think it’s a good question (and I can answer it), I’ll post it in the FAQ. Along those same lines, if you know the answer to a question you think should be there, email it to me and I’ll post it (and give you credit).

I put up a Site Map as well! I realize that there are some things on this site that are in very odd places, so maybe that will help. If you’ve been to most of the sections on this site already then you probably don’t need to look at the site map.

I have also updated Henry’s bio with corrections and additions from Dana Duffy.

Sorry for this update, because there really isn’t anything new to tell you about, but I feel this deserves mentioning. As is stated in this thread on the Game Show Network forum, GSN might be cutting the black and white block of shows down to one hour a night! While I realize that many of the people who would be reading this also frequent the forums, just in case anyone out there doesn’t know, it is recommended that you email programming@gsn.com if you’d like to keep the B&W shows on the air! Tell them how much you love the black and white shows! Of course they’re not getting rid of them completely, and IGaS is one of the most popular shows so I doubt it will go away. However, I like all of the black and whites, and I’m sure a lot of you do too. Now, maybe they’re not shrinking it at all, but it’s always good to tell them what you like, right? So by all means, TELL THEM!

Ok, so this isn’t a total loss, I updated the OxyIGaS page with more secrets, and I also added some stuff to Betsy’s bio.

The new (and probably final) TV Guide Cover page is up in the PICTURES section! It features EVERY IGaS TV Guide cover, complete with dates and a description of who is on the cover! You can also view that page in TEXT ONLY form (no thumbnails of the covers, faster loading).

I have been trying to get IGaS TV Guides on ebay, and have gotten a few so far. I’ll be transcribing those articles, which will be in the articles section when they’re finished, with pictures. I hope to get all of the IGaS TV Guides, but we’ll see.

Another huge update! I can’t keep this up for long, folks. Today we have my finished “Here’s Morgan Book Review!” You can find it in the ARTICLES section under “opinion.” It is a HUGE review, with lots of passages transcribed for your reading pleasure. Read all about the “communism” accusation, his boat trip with Garry, and many other things! While I was at it, I also updated Henry’s biography with more info about his wives/family, and more pictures!

Speaking of pictures, there is a new pictures category! There is a page for “professional photos.” Right now there are only three Henry photos, but more will be added in the future. Visit the PICTURES section for that.

I put up more credits! They are the credits for the 9th Anniversary Episode! You can find that in the END CREDITS section, naturally.

IGaSol is now listed on the links page of the IGaS page on TVtome!

I put up a transcript of the Final Episode comments, complete with pictures! You can find it in the ABOUT section. I hope it doesn’t confuse people, because although it’s technically a transcript, I feel it fits better in the about section. I also changed the format of that page just a little bit. I put up a page for the Oxygen version of IGaS which is also in the ABOUT section. It just has a list of some of the secrets that have been on the show.

One last thing. IGaSol is now in the links section of the IGaS page on Jump the Shark!

Huge news! I registered http://www.ivegotasecretonline.com a few days ago! Now you can just go to that address, and you’ll arrive here! I know it’s not much shorter to type, but it’s easier to remember! The url won’t stay in the address bar because of the way the server is set up, but maybe sometime in the future it will.

There are a bunch of new transcripts up, WITH AUDIO CLIPS! The transcripts page has also been broken up into categories. I will add more once there are more transcripts. All of the audio clips are in the “Acts and Performances” section. The download link for the audio will be at the top of each transcript. I also put up the theme song for “It Happened to Jane!” It can be found at the top of its transcript, of course. That’s it for now, enjoy the new stuff!

Well, I finally changed the name. The site is now officially called “I’ve Got a Secret online!” I know how uncreative it is, but it just seemed the most straightforward. Now I can finally put up some of the stuff that I finished a long time ago, so look for that in the near future. Audio clips are coming! I also recently got the episode of Oxygen IGaS in which Steve Allen and Betsy Palmer appeared, and I will transcribe it with pictures at some point, but I don’t know when. Well, I think that’s about all for now. I’m going to be putting up all the audio clips together, because there will be a new transcripts page section for them.

Update Archive 08/2002 – 06/2003

Friday, June 6th, 2003
I just put up a really cool and useful page — The GSN On Air Guide Date Calculator! It generates URLs for any date, so you can view past schedules! There is also a companion article explaining how it works! They are both located in the articles section!

I also added tom3 and bossradio93 to the contributors page. It’s one of those “I can’t believe I forgot them!” cases. If you don’t know what they’ve done, go read the page!

Finally, as promised, the site name has changed! Check out the new logo! This site is now known as the Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con! I told ya the irony wouldn’t be lost on me. Ok, so it’s just a temporary thing until I get a real name. Contest is still open if anyone has any ideas! I’m waiting to put up a bunch of audio clips with transcripts *cough cough*.

First of all, there are new pictures up! The transcript for “It Happened to Jane” now has updated HIGH QUALITY pictures! I felt this was a pretty important one, being the only color IGaS out there, so I updated it first. I will be updating all of the transcripts with better pictures eventually, as I’ve probably said a million times already.

There are new sections up! There is a section for other people’s contributions, where you get your name listed with whatever you’ve submitted or done for this site. There is also an articles section, for anything at all that people feel like writing. Check that section for more details. There are three articles up already.

I’ve also fixed some things. Some of the links were messed up because of the new version, but I fixed the ones that I found. There still might be some links that aren’t working, so please email me if you find any. I also just realized that the About this Site and About the Show pages were totally messed up. A lot of the text was bold when it wasn’t supposed to be. So…I fixed that too. If you notice anything weird like that, please tell me about it, because a lot of stuff on this site is automatic, and if that gets messed up and I don’t realize it, it can affect a lot of pages.

It’s the official Rename This Site Contest! Why do I want to rename this site? Well it’s pretty simple. When I first made this site, it was basically just posts that I had made on the GSN board. This site has expanded more than I had thought, and contains a lot of other people’s images and things. Not only that, but I love the idea of community projects, where everyone contributes. This site would not be what it is now without those other people. I’m still going to be running this site and putting up as much as I can, but I would really like other people to submit images, articles, bios, etc. I would like the name of this site to reflect that. So, here are…

THE RULES:

  • Must be a single word
  • Must be easy to pronounce
  • Must sound cool
  • Must suggest community or a group effort
  • Then, either A:

  • Must be an acronym
  • Must contain “igas” in the word
  • Or B:

  • Must be a combination of two or more words

For instance, if it were type A, it could be something like “igastic,” being an acronym for “I’ve Got a Secret: The Internet Community” or something. An example of type B is something like “SecComPro,” being a combination of “Secret Community Project.” Of course, that’s a terrible word, so I would never use it, but you get the idea. Your entry doesn’t HAVE to follow those rules…I mean if it’s a really good idea, then of course I’ll consider it. To submit your entry, just post it in one of these threads that I have created:

The Big Board
Game Show Network Forum

If you don’t have an account on either of those boards, email me your entry!

And in case you’re wondering, yes, I do realize that irony in this contest if very few people enter it. It’s a contest about making this site a community thing, and then no one enters. So I guess this is the first test, to see if people are actually interested in this idea. If not, I’ll still keep putting up what I can, but there’s a lot of stuff I don’t know about or don’t have access to, and that’s where everyone else comes in.

So what do you get if you win? Well…you get your name posted on this site in BIG BOLD LETTERS! You also get the joy of knowing you helped out, and every time anyone mentions the name of this site, you can secretly think to yourself, “that was my idea.” Ok, well I can’t send you anything physical, but I might be able to give you access to exciting mysterious secret areas of this site or something. There is one other thing though. I have a bunch of new stuff to put up, new transcripts WITH AUDIO CLIPS! I’m not going to put them up until this site is renamed however. So, the sooner someone submits a winning entry, the sooner that stuff will go up! This also means that this contest has no time limit. It may run for only a few days, or it may run for a week or two. Basically, as soon as I get an entry I really like, the contest ends. If I get a lot of good entries, I might make a poll and then everyone can vote. If I don’t get any entries at all, I’m changing the name to “Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con,” just to confuse people.

HUGE UPDATE! Wow. I’m exhausted. I started this update on 4/27, and have done NOTHING else since (with the exception of two days where I was away from home)! I mean that literally, too, because I don’t go to school, and I work at home. I have completely re-coded the ENTIRE site! Lots of stuff added, much more will be added in the near future. I basically had to make this whole site over again, except for some of the images (but those are going to change soon too), and obvious text like the transcripts. Sleep for ten minutes, code some more, sleep for ten minutes….

You may have noticed a few changes in the layout, but there are actually many more changes you can’t see. I’ve converted the whole site to PHP and CSS. Basically all that means is that everything is better and cooler looking. PHP and CSS can do a lot of neat things, which I discuss in the Site Features portion of the ABOUT section.

As far as actual content goes, practically EVERYTHING has been updated! I was going to release this earlier, but then I decided to just go all out and update as much as I could. The easiest way is to just go read every section, because it would just be repetitive to talk about them all here! However, I’ll comment briefly on the new stuff. There is a brand new … *drumroll* … BIOGRAPHIES SECTION! I had been meaning to do that for a long time, and finally did it. I feel like I’m in school again, because I wanted fairly short bios, so I had to research it and write them myself. See the section for more information, and see how you can help! There is also a new CREDITS section. The ABOUT section has been updated with a ton of new information about the various versions of the show and stuff about this site.

I now have virtually every episode on tape that GSN airs, minus a few that I missed the first time around. So now I’ll have more time (and a VCR that isn’t dedicated to taping IGaS every night) to do some new transcripts and things. Of course I still have a million other things to do, but seeing the “good” episodes on tv again has inspired me to work on this site more.

In other news, thanks to a post by GarryMooreFan, I found out that Betsy Palmer is scheduled to appear at the Williamsburg Film Festival! You can get autographs and pictures taken with her! It will be held in Williamsburg, Virginia, from March 11 – 13, 2004. I live in Chicago, so it’s not very likely that I will be going, unfortunately. Betsy would be the only reason for me to go, anyway. If anyone is going, PLEASE get some pictures or something and scan them for me! I know it’s a long way away, but I thought I’d post it. I’ll try to remember to post a reminder again later when it gets closer to the date. Remember, she’s not guaranteed to be there of course, but she is on the list. You can read all about the festival at their official site:
Williamsburg Film Festival Info

Wow, I don’t get to post any current news very often, so this is really cool. It almost makes me feel like I’m making a fansite about something that DIDN’T happen fifty years ago!

Ok, well that’s it for now, quit reading this and GO CHECK OUT ALL THE NEW STUFF!

I haven’t forgotten about this site! Seriously! This site is in NO way dead, and WILL be updated, but I don’t know when. I have been taping every IGaS episode, and have been watching them trying to catch up. I almost have every (shown) episode on tape, and once that happens it will be easier for me to update. I have a better way to take screenshots, so I’ll probably upgrade the current transcripts with better and bigger pics, and put up more transcripts as well. Audio clips, and maybe even some video clips are also coming! Any updates will definitely be posted on the GSN board, but it never hurts to check this site often as well. (:

Pictures and transcript of “It Happened To Jane” IGaS scene are up! Check it out if you’d like to see what IGaS looks like in color! Not the best quality, but at least it’s there. I will get better pictures eventually.

Thanks to Dave Jones for sending me a bunch of scans of his autographed photos, tickets, TV guide covers, etc! They’re all in the pictures section!

A bunch of pictures are up with three new transcripts! Two of my favorite secrets! The transcripts page also has a new layout! Not the best quality pictures, but they’re ok. In the future I will get a better way of capturing screenshots, but for now this is adequate.

This was when the actual site premiered (version 1.0), with graphics and nice formatting and all the rest. Version 1.0 was straight HTML with SSI. Still not a lot of content, just the transripts and things with no pictures. Version 1.1 came a little later, and the only major change was the left menu “diamonds” changed to a beveled 3D look.

Obviously this update was never actually on the original site, because the site wasn’t even up yet! But, for anyone who is interested, I figured I’d put up a little bit of history of how it all started. This was the day I put up four transcripts. They were white-background black-text nothing-special text transcripts, but it was the start of this site. They were just posts that I had made on the Game Show Network forum, describing some of the good secrets that were on. Someone had asked about one of the secrets months later, so I found my old posts and put them up. Having no homepage and really ugly pages motivated me to finish the “real” site.
